Bembo Broadside Design

The goal of the project was to design an poster that highlights the individualities of the font given and educates the viewer of the font’s history. This is a poster that highlights the features of the font Bembo, a font made by Francesco Griffo in 1495, and gives an overview of its history. In the upper part of the piece, attention is brought to the specific individualities of letterforms that have been enlarged and centralized. Parts of the letterforms are filled in white and circled to bring emphasis to the specific unique areas. There is also a complete character set placed in the right side and a description of the history of the font placed in the bottom left corner. The character set and history description frames a vintage-inspired illustration of a male individual. The background is created using overlays of graphics designed to imitate books that would be created during Bembo’s time period. A copy of the character set has been offset and lowered in opacity to mirror these overlays. A quill is placed just above the word Bembo, making it appear as if the letters were just created by hand.
